Have you ever forgotten to take your medication on time?

October is National Pharmacy Month!

Medication Safety is the top priority of all pharmacists and we LOVE partnering with our patients/clients on medication safety and positive outcomes!

We've talked about a lot so far this month, from polypharmacy, to medication as you age, and even medications for our children and grandchildren! Medications can be complicated sometimes, but it's important for us to understand them so we can stay safe!

With great meds comes great responsibility...

While we'd all love to never take another pill again, sometimes we have to! Things like prescription medications for chronic conditions or antibiotics for that nasty infection keep us safe—but only if we use them as directed!

Set a recurring alarm on your phone

  • Most phones let you set recurring alarms for specific days at specific times, so you can get an alarm that works exactly when and how you need it to!

  • You can even title the alarm so you remember what medication you're supposed to be taking!

Pill Organizers—The Modern Way

  • Pill organizers are a classic way to arrange our medications by day and time! They're a great option as long as we're careful when filling them and using them!

  • There are also some interesting alternatives to pill organizers now, like Amazon's PillPack! They send you individual packets of your medications labeled with the date and time you're supposed to take them—so no more trying to remember which pills go where! Check with your Mail Order pharmacy for this benefit too!

Your Pharmacist and Physician are Here to Help!

  • Ask your physician or pharmacist to write down the important information when they're telling you about your prescriptions!

  • Consider asking them about taking your meds with food, what the prescription is for, and what happens if you miss a dose!

  • When in doubt, call your local pharmacy! Pharmacists are a great resource when you run into medication questions!

Bring a friend or family member with you!

If you think you'll forget what your physician or pharmacist tells you, then bring someone with you! Bring a friend, family member, or advocate who can help you keep track of what medications you're being prescribed and why!

Need someone to help you keep track of medications?

I'm always happy to go with you to a doctor's appointment you're nervous about. I'm here to stick up for you, ask questions, and help you navigate your health care journey. Just give me a call!
