Medicare for YOU!
Medicare can be scary for people, just the thought of entering the system is overwhelming for folks. I try my hardest to put Medicare in plain, easy-to-swallow information when I am giving my Medicare workshop.
Many of you are, or will be eligible for Medicare now or in a few years and I want to share with you the Top 5 Questions I get from new enrollees.
1: Do I have to take Medicare if I plan to continue working past 65?
No. If you wish to stay on company benefits you do not have to select Medicare, however, there can be long-term advantages to dual coverage.
2: Which is better, Original Medicare or an Advantage Plan?
This is a personal preference. Think of Original Medicare as an à la carte option and an Advantage Plan as an all-in-one option.
3: How long do I have to get signed up?
As first-time enrollees (age 65) you have 7 months around your birthday (3 months before, the month of, and 3 months after).
4: What if I don't like my plan, can I switch?
Yes, however, there are only specific times changes can happen and there are rules that apply.
5: Does Medicare work with other insurances?
Yes. It is possible to be dually covered with private and federal insurance programs.
The one thing I always say in my workshops is there is always a caveat to the rule.
The Rule says....BUT....
There is always a BUT...
Learning what those caveats are ahead of time will help immensely when it comes to understanding coverage and out-of-pocket expenses.
Use what resources you have available to you; education workshops, government website, Medicare agents and brokers, friends and family. Start your research early! One resource I always provide to those attending my workshops is the Medicare & You book (available in paperback or digital download). This book is printed annually and walks you through the program and its coverage. GET IT!
Don't forget that I too am a resource for you, call or email me if you have questions. I'd be happy to discuss your specific situation and offer guidance.
