When you choose a doctor, it’s a “package deal”… here’s why!

Most people are careful about choosing a doctor. Bedside manner counts but expertise counts more! If you ever need hospital care, doctors admit you to the hospital where they have privileges.

Is your doctor's  hospital just as good as your doctor?  Maybe. Maybe not
It's important to know!  If you are ever admitted, chances are, your care will be overseen by a hospitalist on staff - not by your own doctor.

Find out if your doctor's hospital is rated A or F -- or in between.

Look it up!  Hospital Safety Grade and Hospital Compare are highly regarded organizations that constantly collect data on hospital quality.

Not an "A"? Don't Panic!

  • Your doctor may be affiliated with two hospitals. Consider asking your doctor to admit you to the one with the higher rating.

  • If you live in an area where you don’t have options – use both hospital rating sites to understand your hospital's possible limitations.

  • No matter which hospital cares for you....

    • ALWAYS bring someone with you as your Care Partner – an extra pair of eyes, ears and hands to support you, and

    • ALWAYS bring these step-by-step checklists  so you will know how to partner with the medical team for quality care.

Even in top-rated hospitals, cracks in care can occur.
So, be sure your health care "package deal" includes your doctor, a hospital you know and trust, and –  just to be on the safe side – a Care Partner, too!
